"Food and water, health care and schooling, the chance of a long and full life - this is the unrealised dream of too many children.

I ask you to "make dreams real" for these children and their families and to work with me toward the Rotary dream of a happier, healthier and more peaceful world".

Message from our Club President - Bill Smith

Welcome to our website which I hope you find both interesting and stimulating. It is designed to give you a flavour of our Club and what we do in Rotary.

Rotary or Rotary International to give it its full title is the biggest voluntary service organisation in the world with its 1.3 million members in 187 countries - our Club represents Rotary in the Bulwell & Basford region of Nottingham,  but you do not have to live within that area to be a member or to help with projects.

We are a growing Club which is unusual in this day and age.  Perhaps because we are a happy group with a large and varied social programme, plus we look to involve ourselves in interesting projects particularly those that focus on help in the community, i.e., the 'Step Up' project with Oasis (Salvation Army) advising and helping people in Bulwell & Basford who are having to face hardship.  The 'Schools in Africa' project with Leonard Cheshire helping convert schools for disabled people, the 'Hayward House Hospice' garden project and the 'Support a Soldier' initiative designed to get shoe boxes full of goodies and a letter to our troops in Forward Operating bases in Afghaniastan and the Aqua Box project sending water purification devices and other helpful items to areas of need around the world.   These together with the usual charitable work we do in the community define Bulwell & Basford Rotary Club.

If there is one of our projects you feel you could help us with or indeed you may have one you think we could help you with, then do contact us via the website or come along to one of our meetings at the Westminster Hotel, (see below) and discover at first hand what we and Rotary are all about.

We hope to meet you soon.

 President 2010 - 2011  Bill Smith

David Archer & Bill Smith with a welfare box to be sent to Afghanistan.

Bulwell and Basford Rotary Club have started a scheme to support our soldiers currently protecting the people of Afghanistan at "forward operating bases"  (FOB's) in Taliban held areas of the Country. We send to specific addresses only, not general parcels which may not be delivered.   45 Commandos, Royal Marines have taken over from the Army,  and are now  occupying 6 FOB's and 2 small supply bases in Helman province.  They receive little or no letters or parcels from home unlike the troops at the large Camp Bastion Base who can receive general parcels as well as those from their relatives.    For security reasons only those parcels addressed to an individual or with a  code can be forwarded to a FOB.

For information on what we are doing and how fellow Rotarians,
Companies and the general public can help,  go to our item under Club News.
We have included a list of items that our troops would like to receive.
