Welcome to Rotary

Bulwell & Basford Rotary Club represents Rotary International in the Bulwell, Basford, Nuthall & Kimberley areas of Nottingham. Rotary International is the biggest voluntary service organisation in the world with its 1.2 million members in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.

I have been a member of the Club since 2003 and was their first female member and I am delighted now to be their first female President. We are quite a small club, but with a mix now of male and female members - we have a varied social programme, and also involve ourselves in interesting projects locally, nationally and internationally.

Locally we give Dictionaries for Life to leavers at six primary schools in our area and we are forging contacts with a local secondary school to promote Rotary Youth projects. We also support the local Food Bank with donations each month and we are active in helping various national charities with their collection days. We have also supported some talented local young sporting stars who are being recognised nationally.

Internationally we have helped to provide sewing machines to below poverty line women in a very poor part of Kerala, India. This enables them to make a living and improve their lifestyle. We have also supported a housing project in India which provides much needed accommodation and shelter for the needy. In addition we send dental products to a group who help children in Gambia.

These projects, together with the individual charitable work we do in the community, define Bulwell & Basford Rotary Club as being a very proactive club.

If there is one of our projects which you feel you could help us with, or indeed you may have one you think we could help you with, then do contact us via the website. Or come along to one of our meetings and discover at first-hand what we, and Rotary. are all about and what we have achieved.

We are a very social group, and if you think you could help us to make a difference, then come along and meet us – we are at the Bestwood Lodge Hotel most Wednesdays 12.15 for 12.30pm. You are always very welcome.

Please take the time to visit our news pages to get an idea of the charitable and social activities that we take part in. If you want further information you can contact us via our "Contact Page" and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Garden Party

The Rotary Club of Bulwell & Basford held its annual Garden party at  the home of Terry and Val Leivers, Bestwood Lodge Stables, Nottingham.  We were raising funds to provide a mobile defibrillator to be placed in Ellis Guilford School for school and local community use. This is in memory of our late member, John Martin who passed away suddenly just 2 days after last year’s event. A plaque dedicated to John will be placed in the school gym.

Over £700 (plus gift aid) was raised and everyone attending had a great day.
