Young Musician Gala Concert 2011

DISTRICT YOUNG MUSICIAN GALA CONCERT SEES YET ANOTHER "FEAST OF TALENT"

Sunday May 15th 2011 again saw the District Young Musician Gala Concert at the Assembly Rooms Derby .

Once again an almost "packed" house of Rotarians and enthusiastic families ,tutors and schoolmates saw yet another crop of talented young people treat their audience to a "feast" of quality music featuring some absolutely stunning perfomances with an ' eclectic' range of music stretching from Harp , Saxophone , Piano and Flute through to progressive Rock , Musical Theatre and unusually a band performing on traditional instruments , authentic Balinese music called "Gamelan".

The hard work undertaken last year by District YOPS co-ordinator Tony Storer and organizers John Hall ( Amber Valley ) and Terry Clay (Melbourne) to 'sell' the event especially to schools and music centre has again paid off and support for the performers on the night from both staff, tutors and pupils was to great to see . Once again over half the clubs in District , some travelling a fair distance, ensured there was barely a seat to be had and also pleasing was to see new clubs sponsoring performers for the first time.

Now with support across the District for Young Musician and the other headline programs like like Youth Speaks - Young Chef and RYLA and yet again a national winner in Young Photographer, Youth Opportunities in D-1220 remains in 'good health ' and is looking forward to 2011-12.

Thanks again must go to those who ,on the night , made the success achievable - the Amber Valley team which each year looks after 'front of house' and all the activity on stage , to AG Roger Summers for his brilliant photography which can be viewed and downloaded from the District Website , to compére Richard Moulder and the technical team from the Assembly Rooms, without whom, the event would not reach the professional standard it consistently achieves! ....but most of all to our young 'stars in the making' without whose dedication to their music , day in- day out , our Young Musician Concert would never happen.

John Hall ( Amber Valley )            Terry Clay ( Melbourne)
