Young Musician Gala Concert 2010

DISTRICT YOUNG MUSICIAN GALA CONCERT - A STUNNING “ SELL-OUT”

Sunday May 9th saw once again the District Young Musician Gala Concert at the Assembly Rooms Derby.

For the first time ever in front of a “packed” house of almost 300 … comprising Rotarians and performers families and friends , 20 talented young people treated their audience to a “feast” of quality music featuring some absolutely stunning perfomances on a wide range of instruments covering Brass – Woodwind – Strings - Piano and Percussion including for the first time the Xylophone !

Not to be outdone there were shining vocal performances too ranging from Broadway and West End through Spiritual to male voice repertoire

This year the ambition of District YOPS co-ordinator Tony Storer and of organizers John Hall ( Amber Valley ) and Terry Clay (Melbourne) was to really go out and “sell it” to clubs, to schools and music centres across the District and the response was tremendous with barely a seat to be had, over 35 clubs represented in the audience and almost 20 of them nominating performers too

Now for the first time we can say and see clearly there is great support for Young Musician which it’s hoped we can rely upon next year and now Tony is keen to build upon that for the other ‘headline’ YOPS programs like Youth Speaks – Young Chef and RYLA

Thanks have to go to those who ,on the night ,made this success achievable - the Amber Valley team who each year look after ‘front of house’ and stage , to Frank Seals for his brilliant photography which can now be viewed and downloaded from the District Website and to inimitable compére and retiring Sgt at Arms Richard Moulder ……..but most of all to our young ‘stars in the making’ without whose dedication to their music , day in- day out , our Young Musician Concert would never happen

John Hall ( Amber Valley )            Terry Clay ( Melbourne)
