District Personal Accident Policy

Key Facts added 24/6/2006

Please read the key facts document from our insurers which is in PDF format and may be downloaded here.

Clarification notes, added 28/05/2006

  1. The policy is an umbrella contract between Sutton Winson Insurance (RIBI Brokers) and our District members.
  2. The policy is for the benefit of individual members not District. It is therefore for every member, not Club Council, to decide whether the policy suits their purpose.
  3. Only a Club on majority decision will be accepted for the cover. Individual members cannot be covered unless the Club votes to be included.
  4. The cover afforded covers ALL Rotary meetings and events (including travel to such events) for a Rotarian up to the age of 80, but excluding Honorary members. Normally P/A insurance would expire at age 70.
  5. The decision was made by both District Executive and District Council to proceed with the policy. We are one of two Districts who afford this contract, at present.
  6. Because the District undertook to write the contract on an umbrella basis the annual premium is extremely good value. Should a Club take out a sole contract then the premium would equate to some £7/8 per member.
  7. Rotarians are NOT COVERED FOR PERSONAL ACCIDENT BY ANY OTHER ROTARY INSURANCE, although members of the public are covered under third party insurance.

Original Notice

The District has arranged a personal accident policy for Rotarians when undertaking Rotary activities within the UK.

Not all clubs have subscribed to this policy, and you should check with your own club whether this policy applies to you. At the time of writing, 12 clubs have opted out, possibly because they have already made their own provision.

Any claims under the policy will need to be made via the District and any settlement will be paid to District for the benefit of the individual / beneficiary.

The policy does not cover anyone over the age of 85 and you are advised to make alternate arrangements.

An outline of the cover follows. The full policy in PDF format may be downloaded here.
