A Summary of the Rotary year ending 30th June 2007Another Rotary year has been completed and another year of outstanding service from all Clubs within this District, District 1220 which covers fifty eight Clubs in Nottinghamshire, most of Derbyshire and one club from each of Leicestershire and Staffordshire. Thank youAs I have said many times, it has been a great honour and a privilege to be your District Governor this Rotary year (ending 30th June). Thank you for the opportunity. It has been a very hectic, but also a very rewarding year. I have been able to see at first hand the many projects and the service undertaken by all Clubs in this District and you are to be congratulated on what you have achieved. Presidential CitationI am very pleased that thirty two clubs have received the Presidential Citation which indicates that clubs are active in the four avenues of service and there are definite proposals to increase membership. Club AwardsA particular daunting task at the end of the year was to select one Club to receive an award for each of the categories. It really was a difficult task to come to a decision but I would like to congratulate all the winning Clubs – a list of these are elsewhere on this website. Commiserations to the losers. HighlightsThere have been many highlights in the year, but I would like to specifically mention two of them. The first is the annual Conference held in Llandudno and the second the Group Study Exchange with District 2260, Norway. Both, I hope you will agree, were outstanding successes. Preferred ProjectsI would like to thank Clubs for supporting the preferred projects including water management, literacy, heath and hunger, the family of Rotary, Impact, the Wheelchair Foundation, Cancer Research, Barnardo’s and my two local charities, When You Wish Upon a Star and Life Education. Your support has been appreciated and it will make a difference. 2007/2008I would like to wish District Governor Roger and his team well for this Rotary year as they support Rotary Shares. And finally…For the support and encouragement I have received in the last year, I would like to thank the District Team, my own club – the Rotary Club of Mapperley, and in particular the 2006/Club Presidents and the Club members for making Susan and I so welcome on the Club visits and Charters. We have made many new friends and we look forward to meeting you all again in the near future. Keep up the good work! David Curtis
