I arrived back from India and the Rotary wheel started turning again for me. The District hosted RIBI President Jim Moulson at a number of events and visits over four days including spending time with Reg Dean, an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Wirksworth who still regularly attends club meetings at the age of 108! It is a sobering thought that Reg was born 3 years before Rotary was founded. The Group Study Exchange team are in Chennai and having a very busy and productive visit. Please take time to look at their blog at: gsechennai.blogspot.com Also a reminder to look at my blog at dgval.blogspot.com to see what your DG is doing and your photograph may well be there too! The training for next year’s District team and Presidents is well under way under the guidance of DGE Gordon McGlone and the theme next year is “Reach within to Embrace Humanity”. Please ensure that your club officers and members attend the District Assembly on Saturday morning 7 May. I am now receiving the RI Presidential Citation applications via the Assistant Governors who will give you help if needed. Please ensure that you application reaches me by 31 March. With all of the fantastic work being done in the District every club is capable of achieving the award this year. It is essential that we ensure that RI is aware of the excellent clubs in District 1220. After many months of planning it is hoped that the cold weather has not deterred the crocus bulbs from appearing on 23 February. Please remember to take photographs and send them to Anni Gell, Bingham & District, who is our Thanks for Life facilitator. The economic climate for charities is bleak and I believe that Rotary will be called upon to help the small local projects to survive as the financial cuts arrive. Val |
