I would like to wish all Rotarians and their families a happy and prosperous New Year. As mentioned in last months Newsletter, at the end of December, we completed six months of our Rotary year. It is a time to reflect on our achievements to date and to look ahead. We need to move Rotary forward in the months to come. As I have said many times, and so has RIBI President Allan Jagger, we must change and think outside of the box to survive as an organisation. Let us please go into 2008 with this in mind. DG VisitsThe Charter season having eased off for Christmas is back on 20th January at Bingham followed by many more over the next six months. I look forward to meeting as many Rotarians as possible. I am happy to come to any event if you would like me to and please invite me if you wish. My diary is on the District Website. MembershipAs you know membership is one of our key priorities this year. New Members are the life blood of our organisation. From the District Database “APAC” (apac.rotary1220.org) I can confirm that I have written to 40 New Members, particular congratulations to Alfreton and Retford who have inducted 3 and 4 New Members respectively. At the time of writing we are showing a net loss of 6 members this Rotary year to date. Interestingly several clubs have not been on the site since last Rotary year and several more have made no amendments for some months. The question therefore is “How accurate is the database?” Given this situation at the last executive meeting it was agreed that we need to move forward. The executive unanimously agreed to progress with the formation of new clubs. We would like the co-operation and support of the clubs in the selected areas but where this is not forthcoming we will proceed to start new clubs even without that support. This will be discussed at the District Council on 15th January. District DonationsAfter conference we find we can make the following donations which will be made as soon as possible: Life Education £1,000 (split 50/50 between Notts & Derbyshire); Maggies £ 1000; NSPCC £ 750 My sponsored walk for Maggies has to date raised £ 806 and I would be pleased to reach £1,000 so if those clubs that have not yet donated but intend to could It would be good to hand this over quickly. Thanking you in anticipation.
