Christmas Greeting

I would like to wish all Rotarians and their families a happy, joyful and peaceful Christmas and a fantastic Happy New Year.
At the end of December we complete 6 months of our Rotary year so it is a time to reflect on our achievements to date and to look ahead to moving Rotary forward in the months to come.

As I have said many times, and those of you that heard Allan Jagger on his visits to our District, has also said we must change and think outside of the box to survive as an organisation. Let us go into 2008 with this in mind.

DG Visits

I am pleased to report that I have now completed all of my visits. Some visits were in clusters but thank you to all for making this part of my responsibilities so pleasant and enjoyable. The Charter season having started now eases until 20th January at Bingham. Each charter has been different and most enjoyable. Thank you for your hospitality.

RIBI President Visit

The RIBI President Allan Jagger was in the District last month shortly after he shared Conference with us. Thank you to all those clubs that hosted him and to those of you that made the journey to hear him. Allan has strong views on Rotary and I hope he has given you all food for thought.

The DVD made by Amber Valley called “ Ay up Youth” was a memorable part of Allan’s visit. Thank you President Tony and members for going to so much trouble

The Inner Wheel & District Carol Service

Thank you Gloria and team for the work you have put into make this a very enjoyable evening.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

The news of the month is:

Rotary International has announced a partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that will inject a much needed US$200 million into the global effort to eradicate polio. The Rotary Foundation received a $100 million Gates Foundation challenge grant, which Rotary will raise funds to match, dollar for dollar, over three years. Read more on the RI Website.

Membership

And finally thank you all for trying so hard to increase membership.

I am sad to report the APAC statistics show a net loss of 3 members which is disappointing.

Can all secretaries please update the data base by the 31st December please so we can have an accurate picture at the end of the calendar year.
