District Governor's Newsletter
August 2007

DG Roger Pursey

This is an interpretation for the web of Roger's original newsletter. A PDF version of which may be downloaded here.

FLOODING

When the Chesterfield Club requested some help for the flooding in their vicinity it was tremendously well supported not only with money and I know they have written to each club to thank them.

You have also responded well to the national and Yorkshire appeals. Well done D1220 a big thank you from me for the response. You will be updated on progress.

Please follow the link for the latest appeal news.

Conference 2007

What a great response - over 900 will be attending (as I type this newsletter). Registration is still open. I know that Southport is the least popular of our three venues so thank you Rotarians and your families for the support.

Conference Director John and the team are very busy and all is going well. We will have a great Conference.

I look forward to meeting you on Merseyside where I know we will enjoy a great Rotary weekend of fun, fellowship and friendship. If you can’t make the whole weekend or have never been to our conference before then why not try a day registration – just turn up and register. Details will be emailed to each club in Mid September.

RIBI President Allan is of course with us and he is worth listening too. Our RI Representative is Ómar Steindórsson from Iceland.

APAC (District Directory)

I was surprised to find that many Rotarians do not know they can use it on line. Every District Rotarian can use it and although it is password protected instructions are shown on where to get this from.

Web Master Mark Snape has improved this site in recent weeks and it is now even better and the envy of other districts.

Please have a look at apac.rotary1220.org  and you will be surprised. It is a very useful aid to the District Website and toolkit and can be accessed from the website also.

My DG Visits

This month I have visited;

Ashbourne, Vale of Belvoir, Carlton, Long Eaton, Long Eaton Dawnbreakers, Sutton in Ashfield, Worksop, Retford, Worksop Dukeries, Eckington, Warsop, Chesterfield, Dronfield, Clay Cross, and Hucknall.

Once again I have been made most welcome and can I thank you for your hospitality on behalf of both myself and my driver.

I look forward to meeting more clubs in the next and coming months.

Charters

The Charter season starts in earnest next week with the first Charter at Alfreton on the 3rd. They then follow thick and fast. This will be a challenge to me to try to be original at each in between work and my very full diary. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible

Club Programmes

July and August are often thought of as quiet months in the Rotary Calendar as so many are on holiday but I have been encouraged to hear of the activities to date. Particularly pleased at the number of new members inducted. Lets make growth happen.
