RIBI President's Visit

The President of RIBI, Peter Offer and District Governor David visiting the Heights of Abraham during Peter’s visit to this District in October. This part of his visit was organised by the Matlock Club. He also visited Bulwell and Basford, Sherwood Sunrisers, our District Council meeting, Derby Daybreak, Bretby, Wirksworth and Swadlincote. Thank you all for making his visit such a memorable and enjoyable one.

Club Visits

I have now completed all my required Club visits. I would like to thank everyone for their generous hospitality and friendship. It has been a great experience visiting Clubs and seeing at first hand the wide variety and number of projects and activities that every Club is involved with, both locally and internationally. Congratulations to you all.

Wheelchair Foundation

The original deadline for donations to the Wheelchair Foundation via this District was mid-December. This deadline has been extended to the end of January at the earliest. A number of Clubs have already sent contributions via our District Treasurer, Mike Neville and I thank you for those. If your Club is likely to make a donation or a further contribution then I would appreciate an indication of what that amount is likely to be. The reason for this is that District 1060, when applying for a matching grant, will reflect the likely total amount of donations from this District in their matching grant application. An indication by mid-December would be appreciated.

Fund Raising

I wish all Clubs every success with their fund-raising, especially at this very busy time of the year.

Paul Harris Fellowship Luncheon

All PHF recipients and their partners are invited to this luncheon which will be held on Sunday 14th January 2007 at the Royal Regency Rooms, Ilkeston at 12.15 for 12.45 p.m. The guest speaker will be the 2007/2008 President of R.I.B.I. Ian Thomson. The cost is £15.50 per person and DGE Roger Pursey should be informed if you wish to attend.

Long Eaton Dawnbreakers

This newly formed Club will be officially chartered on Tuesday 20th February – details yet to be finalised. I am pleased to announce that the current years President of R.I.B.I. Peter Offer will be present. Would you please try and ensure that your Club is represented to welcome the twenty two new Rotarians into our District. We wish them well in the future.

Foundation Link Evening

This will be held at Ilkeston, as usual, on Thursday 8th March. Further details will follow. The contact is IPP Brian Darlison (Hucknall).

Youth Speaks

The District finals take place Saturday 10th February. The regional finals take place on Sunday 11th March. Both finals will be held at The Grange, Radcliffe-on-Trent and will commence at 2 p.m.

Group Study Exchange

The team leader for this exchange to Norway in April/May is Barry Harper from the Sutton-in-Ashfield club. Nominations are required for the four members of the team. If you know of anyone who would be a suitable candidate or you would like some further information then please contact Terry Leivers (Sherwood Sunrisers).

Presidential Citation

The Presidential Citation is one way of recognising a Club’s many achievements made during a Rotary year. If your Club is likely to have a net gain of one Member or more and have undertaken one activity from four of the five categories listed in the brochure by the end of the year, then why not apply. Forms have already been sent to all Clubs but you may get another form and details from the Rotary International website

(see Downloads section, 2006-07 Materials, 2006-07 Presidential Citation Brochure or 2006-07 Presidential Citation Certification Form).

Seasons Greetings

District Governor David and Sue Curtis would like to take this opportunity of wishing everyone a happy Christmas and a happy, healthy, prosperous and peaceful New Year.
