INVITATION FROM DISTRICT GOVERNOR 2009 – 2010 TONY STIMPSON

I am delighted to be sending you this invitation to our 38th Annual District Conference to be held this October in Llandudno. This will be our third visit to Llandudno and each time we visit the facilities improve and this year will be no exception. Planning the conference is a challenge but our Conference Director Gordon McGlone has put together what looks to be an outstanding weekend. The Llandudno Conference Centre is able to accommodate the very enjoyable Gala Dinner, first organised at PDG David Curtis’s conference. To have a conference dinner for over 800 on the Saturday night is a great opportunity and it has been welcomed by those previously attending.

Getting the right balance in the Programme is always a challenge. Conference Director Gordon and I strongly believe we have achieved the right mix between informing and entertaining delegates. This will be a chance to find some of those “hidden gems” that make Rotary the number one service organisation in the world. I also believe that if a Rotary Club is not fun and enjoyable, then it will not attract or retain its members. The same is true of our Conference: it must be fun and very enjoyable for all Rotarians AND THEIR PARTNERS alike. Gordon and I look forward to welcoming you all in Llandudno in the firm belief that you will all go home with a smile on your face and more knowledgeable about the future of Rotary.

MESSAGE FROM THE CONFERENCE DIRECTOR GORDON McGLONE

With the support and enthusiasm of my conference team I have put together a programme of good speakers, exciting entertainment and Rotary projects will of course be well represented. You will hear speakers from Air Ambulance, Shelter box and the Samaritans. We will have the usual representation from RI and RIBI as well as presentations on two club projects, GSE and Ambassadorial Scholars.

Entertainment on Friday evening will be Barry Walker’s ‘Smackee’ which will be available to everyone. They appeared at our Conference six years ago and were extremely popular and well worth inviting back. Saturday evening will be the Gala Dinner with a four course meal and entertainment from cabaret act ’SH-BANG’, comedian John Evans, and dancing to the Chequers Band. Because we have a sponsor for the dinner the cost will be only £25 per person, probably cheaper than some evening meals in hotels, so book early as we are limited to just over 800 places. For those unable to attend the dinner, tickets will be available to come later for the dancing.

Sunday will give you the opportunity to hear from Melvyn Hayes (It ain’t ‘arf hot mum’). He will be our guest speaker and comes highly recommended.

Book the date, 2nd to 4th October, in your diary and return your booking form as soon as possible to register at the lowest price.

See you in October and be prepared to laugh and have fun with Rotary.
