Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Amber Valley
www.rotary-ambervalley.org.uk brothers James and Alastair Smith of
Allissa Avenue Ripley and scholars at Mill Hill Media Arts College
recently picked up prestigious national awards in the recent 2009-10
Rotary International in GB & I Young Photographer of the Year
competition . Having previously submitted their work to the local stage of the competition in Amber Valley and then to the regional East Midlands finals at which both came out on top , James (17) came 1st overall in the National Finals Senior Category winning a prize of £100 with Alastair (12) coming 3rd in the Intermediate Section and picking up a £50 award . At a recent assembly held at Mill Hill , Amber Valley club’s President Andrew Loades together with local Youth Opportunities Co-ordinator David Hickton presented both boys with their cheques together with trophies and certificates representing their success at both the regional and national events. Rotary’s annual Young Photographer competition is just one of a number of opportunities for young people in Amber Valley and further afield enabling them to demonstrate their talents and skills to a wider audience with Young Musician , Young Chef , Young Writer and Youth Speaks ( team debating) just some of the areas in which not only can they excel as individuals but which by their involvement provides them with National Curriculum ‘value added’ content to add to their school course work and impacting upon eventual examination achievements. The opportunity to participate is open to all young people either through their school or directly as individuals and anyone wishing to learn more can either visit the Rotary Club of Amber Valley website at www.rotary-ambervalley.org.uk or contact Youth Opportunities Co-ordinator David Hickton at info@rotary-ambervalley.org.uk
